Hello Westwood Youth Soccer Kindergarten Parents!
Kindergarten soccer is all about the kids having fun while learning basic soccer skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. We do not keep score and do not play goalies. We want players to have fun without a lot of pressure. All coaches use great activities provided by our Director of Coaching. Our job as parents and spectators is to cheer them on and encourage them to have fun and do their best!
Kindergarten soccer is a full-year program and there is no need to re-register for the spring season if your child played in the fall. Players generally remain on the same team and play during the same session for the spring season.
If a child DID NOT play in the fall season, and wishes to play in Spring 2027, please contact the registrar separately at registrar@westwoodsoccer.org. All newly-registered players will be assigned to a team/session by the end of March 2027.
This program is dependent on volunteers, and we encourage you to participate as a coach or assistant coach. No prior soccer experience is necessary—only commitment is to attend weekly games and bring your enthusiasm! If you are interested in volunteering, please email kindergarten@westwoodsoccer.org.
Important Dates:
Fall Season: The fall season runs for 8 weeks from Saturday September 12, 2026 and ending Saturday, November 7, 2026.
There will NOT be a session on Saturday, September 19 to allow players to participate in Westwood Day activities.
Spring Season: The spring season runs for 8 weeks from Mid April to early June .
There will NOT be a session on the Saturday TBD to allow players to participate in Westwood’s Baseball/Softball parade.
Kindergarten soccer will be played at the SHEEHAN fields (510 Pond Street) on Saturdays: There are no weekday practices.
NEW! Kindergarten girls and boys will now play in separate sessions instead of the program having coed K teams.
WYS decided to move to single gender teams in Kindergarten based on the recommendation of our professional coach mentors and our WYS Director of Coaching. We also reached out to several other similar-sized towns that had shifted their K programs to single gender teams and received positive reviews. Parent feedback recommending the split was also a definite factor. Overall, we think playing on single-gender teams will be beneficial to meet the needs of the players and brings Kindergarten soccer more in line with the rest of the WYS progam offerings.
Kindergarten GIRLS play at the Sheehan fields from 8:15 – 9:10 am
Kindergarten BOYS play from 9:25 – 10:20 am
** No make-up games will be played. If a game is canceled due to weather it will be posted here: Weekend Field Status by 7:30 am.
We look forward to a great spring season of Kindergarten Soccer!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
