Changes for Fall 2016/Spring 2017

Recently the U.S. Soccer Federation mandated changes to the age group brackets for youth soccer teams to follow a consistent birth-year structure. Changes were also made to the standard number of field players for some groups to facilitate the transition to full-sided 11v11 soccer. Field and goal sizes will remain the same.

Our BAYS travel league and Westwood Youth Soccer will be implementing the changes listed below starting with the Fall 2016/Spring 2017 season.

Given the strong desire to keep players together by school grade, the playing groups are now categorized as School Grades with a qualifying criteria of a date of birth range. Registration and team formation reflect these changes.

7/8th Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2002 AND are in the 7th/8th grade - play 11v11 with offsides rule

6th Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2004 AND are in the 6th grade - play 9v9 with offsides rule

5th Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2005 AND are in the 5th grade - play 9v9 with offsides rule

4th Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2006 AND are in the 4th grade - play 7v7 without offsides

3rd Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2007 AND are in the 3rd grade - play 7v7 without offsides

2nd Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2008 AND are in the 2nd grade - play 4v4 without offsides

1st Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2009 AND are in the 1st grade - play 4v4 without offsides

K Grade - Players born on or after 1/1/2010 AND are in the K grade - play 4v4 without offsides
